Statement on Our Academic Activities in China

Recently, it was learned that the Yuan Ye Summit Forum which was planned to be held in Shanghai on January cancelled. We were shocked to acknowledge that the Shanghai Society of Landscape Architecture issued a boycott document on January 2, stating untruth words on Asian Landscape Architecture Society and Ms. Wang Xiaolin. The document intermingled exchange and cooperation of the international landscape architecture industry.

Hereby, we make statement as below:

1. At the end of December 2018, we learned that the Chinese government issued Overseas NGO Law at 2017. We fully respect it and we will file for documentation and carry out activities in strict accordance with the law. If there were any discrepancies with the relevant laws and regulations, it was caused by our unintelligence. We have no intention to violate deliberately. And we will take responsibility.

2. The Asian Landscape Architecture Society is a legally registered NGO whose mission is to actively organize academic exchanges and cooperation to promote the prosperity and development of the Asian landscape architecture industry. China has made remarkable achievements in the landscape architecture industry in recent decades. The Society is willing to provide opportunities and platforms to share the Chinese experience with Asian counterparts.

3. It needs to clarify that the Shanghai Society of Landscape Architecture declared in the official document "ALAS was established after Taiwan was forced to withdraw from the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA)", which is unreal. Ms. Wang Xiaolin has kept good relation with many Provinces and Cities’ landscape organizations in China, and she devoted herself into the landscape architecture academic exchanges between Taiwan and the mainland, as well as with Asian countries.

4. Yuan Ye is a monograph of ancient Chinese gardening. It has played a significant role in the world landscape theories. CHLA.COM.CN has launched the Yuan Ye Award to promote Chinese traditional gardening art and craftsmanship. Yuan Ye Summit Forum has successfully held 8 years in a row and it has become an annual industry event in Asia. It is totally in line with ALAS chapter and mission to support and participate Yuan Ye activities. We are willing to strengthen communication and exchanges with all Chinese landscape architecture associations, including the Shanghai Society of Landscape Architecture. At the same time, we hope that the Shanghai Society of Landscape Architecture will stop and put an end to all the activities that may damage the normal exchanges between the landscape architecture.

5. ALAS fully respects the Chinese government's ideas of peaceful reunification and foreign policy, and promotes mutual learning and cooperation in the future international landscape communication.

關於我會在中國境內開展學術活動有關情況的聲明

近期獲悉，園冶杯原定一月份的上海論壇取消。一月二日上海市風景園林學會下發抵制文件，對此我們表示震驚！文中涉及亞洲園林協會以及王小璘女士的有關言論不利於國際間風景園林行業的交流與合作。為此，特發表聲明：

一、在2018年12月底得知，中國政府出臺法令，規定從2017年開始國際組織在中國境內開展活動要備案。對此，我方將充分尊重中國政府的規定，今後在中國境內開展活動前將按規定辦理相關手續。此前本會活動如有與相關法令不符之處，悉因本會不瞭解中國相關法令所致，並無惡意違反的主觀意願，對此，本會願承擔相應責任。

二、亞洲園林協會是合法註冊的NGO，其使命就是積極組織開展學術交流與合作，推動亞洲園林事業的繁榮和發展。中國近幾十年來園林事業取得舉世矚目的成就，本會願意提供相應交流機會和平臺，讓亞洲國際同行分享中國經驗。

三、需要澄清的是: 上海市風景園林學會在正式文件中宣稱“ALAS是在臺灣被迫退出國際風景園林師聯合會（IFLA) 後成立的”，這與事實不符。王小璘女士長期以來與中國許多省市的園林行業組織有著友好關係,  一直致力於臺灣和大陸間以及亞洲各國風景園林界的學術交流。

四、《園冶》是中國古代造園專著。可以說，在世界園林理論中有舉足輕重的地位。風景園林網發起園冶杯活動，推廣中國傳統的造園藝術和工匠精神是非常有意義的。園冶高峰論壇已經連續舉辦了八屆，已經成為亞洲地區的年度行業盛會。支持和參與園冶杯活動，是符合協會章程和使命的。我方願與包括上海市風景園林學會在內的一切中國園林同行加強溝通與交流，同時希望上海市風景園林學會停止和杜絕一切有損風景園林國際正常交流的行為。

五、本會完全尊重中國政府和平統一的主張以及外交政策，並在今後的國際風影園林交流中促進相互學習與合作。
